Newt doesn’t care at all for the Ground Zero Mosque: “The idea of a 13-story building set up by a group many of whom, frankly, are very hostile to our civilization”:
Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich put the proposed giant mosque-community center complex, which is planned to be built right near Ground Zero, in the proper perspective. It is an illustration of sheer hypocrisy on the part of the leaders of this project and other Islamists who profess religious tolerance but expect it to run in only one direction – in their favor.Here is what Newt Gingrich had to say about the hypocritical mosque planners last night on Greta Van Sustern’s Fox News show, “On The Record”:
They didn’t propose, Let’s build a mosque, church and synagogue. They said, Let’s build a 13-story mosque and a community center… I find it very offensive to get lectured about religious liberty at a time when there are no churches and no synagogues in Saudi Arabia and when no Christian and no Jew can walk into Mecca. I mean, I’d love to have these folks say, Let’s build a church and a synagogue in Mecca, or rather in Saudi Arabia… They’re not saying that. It is entirely one-sided and it is entirely, I think, a kind of triumphalism that we should not tolerate.
Shirley Sherrod and Amazing Grace used in the same sentence?:
Shirley Sherrod’s now-infamous March speech before an NAACP audience is recognizable to practicing Christians as a “testimony.” That’s the spin that Syracuse journalism professor and former Washington Post staff writer R. Gustav Niebuhr brought to Newsweek/Washington Post’s On Faith feature in a July 26 Under God blog post:… But not to be ignored is one woman’s recounting of how she experienced an amazing grace. That’s not a singular narrative. Americans have been telling those stories about themselves for centuries. The details vary, but the essential storyline remains the same: I was lost, now I’m found. Too bad a lot of the news media are tone deaf when it comes to recognizing the story and the tradition to which it belongs.
By seeing Sherrod’s statement as a testimony of “amazing grace,” Niebuhr seems to confuse leftist liberation theology with the “amazing grace” evangelical Christians recognize as salvation from God’s just wrath against their sins.
Finally, while no Christian’s path of repentance is perfect, it is instructive that in a recent interview, Sherrod fleshed out her outrageous allegations that Fox News:
… would love to take us back to where we were many years ago. Back to where black people were looking down, not looking white folks in the face, not being able to compete for a job out there and not be a whole person.
Niebuhr, however, left that incriminating nugget unmentioned in his blog post.

Just listened to a bit of David Miscavige’s speech at the Seattle Idle Morgue opening (I can only take so much). It relates to the recent post on thought-stopping. It occurs to me that one of the Church’s thought-stopping techniques is these event speeches. They go on and on, full of cliche after cliche, saying absolutely nothing, and all delivered in a rhythmic, almost hypnotic cadence. Here are Miscavige’s opening remarks:“I am genuinely honored to join you on this day when Scientology comes of age in Seattle; not that you haven’t long maintained a presence in this town, not that you haven’t long ago sunk roots into this city, and not that you haven’t long carried the torch of this great Northwest, but only now is all the majesty and subtlety of booming this Church made manifest, because only now can we appreciate the deeper meaning of those campaign slogans which drove your new civilization builders to this moment: leading the way; delivering the future; taking Seattle to greater heights, only now is it clear those weren’t slogans at all, they were a prophecy, so while we’ve long marveled at your unbridled creativity and elaborate events, the many parts you’ve played, the many stages you’ve trod, and the myriad costumes you’ve donned, only now is it obvious when you were told giving your best, you took it to mean the best of the best.”

The sheriff of the most populous county in Arizona says he’s “not going to put up with any civil disobedience” when the state’s new immigration law takes effect.Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio says that if protesters want to block his jail, he’ll put them in it.
Arpaio told ABC’s “Good Morning America” he doesn’t know “what the big hype is.” He says it’s “a crime to be here illegally and everyone should enforce” the law.

You know when a politician starts a sentence with “frankly,” he’s about to lie to your face. The same principle applies to campaign finance legislation dubbed the “DISCLOSE Act.” The voter’s instinctive reaction should be: What are they trying to hide now? Drafted out of public view with left-wing lobbyists and rammed through Congress after bypassing committee hearings, this bum bill would have been better named the CLOSEDDOOR Act.

Just a few decades ago journalism in this country was actually about reporting the facts. Yes, journalists may have leaned to the Left, but at least reporters made an effort to be fair. Today, journalists are more interested in “making a difference” than in any antiquated standards and they play by PRAVDA rules. Every news story is filtered through an ideological prism and instead of asking who, what, when, how, and why, the stories are framed around a simple rule: How can we hurt the Right and help the Left?
