More wacky adventures of “part time” liberals
Michelle Malkin got me started on this with her post on the civil disobedience story from Baltimore. Then it just got out of control when I ran across a liberal post at My.BarackObama.com. But first, here’s where the lawlessness gets started:
“This is our house now:” ACORN mob begins breaking into homes
Michelle Malkin
On Wednesday, I said prepare for lawlessness as ACORN’s civil disobedience mob steps up pressure for President Obama’s mortgage entitlement expansion.
Well, are you ready, Baltimore? (Hat tip – Jeff Quinton) ACORN’s troops are breaking the padlocks and breaking into homes. And this is just the start. Caution: OBAMACORN at work.
Taxpayer-subsidized anarchy is on the way.
It would be safe to assume that these folks think they are merely taking back what is “rightfully” theirs from the “Man” (the “wealthy”). It has been referred to as the “entitlement” mentality … a perversion of what liberals call “the greater good.” This is how society descends into mob rule as folks take it upon themselves to “balance the scales” with their own form of “justice.”
Here are some comments that perfectly represent how this kind of thinking comes about … they are from one of the “community blogs” found under the URL of My.BarackObama.com. This one is especially worrisome:
Conservatism is backwards, and the myth of “the good ole days”
The very idea of conservatism puzzles me. Who in their right mind would want to go back in time? Seriously, is there any time in the history of the planet where life was actually better than it is today?
Lenny … may I ask you a simple question? Just where did you come up with the idea that Conservatism’s goal is to resurrect the past? Just admit that you made that up to create a “straw man” argument … thank you. O.K., what’s next.
For now, I think government is not only essential, but good. I believe the power of citizens to band together and lobby for their interests is important. I believe the idea that we can do great things together is more inspiring than the idea that we should all fend for ourselves.
Well … it looks as though you’re waxing eloquent on the foundational principles of this republic. That’s good! But how about we examine YOUR idea of government against what the Constitution says? As the preamble states, THIS is the purpose of government “… to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty.” Allow me to summarize …
- * More perfect Union – there is strength in numbers; we are bound together for protection of the system that we believe in.
- To establish Justice – the most widely accepted interpretation is that we all operate under the fule of law; laws which are fair, unbiased, and logical.
- To Provide for the Common Defense – government is to provide a basic system of defense against enemies of the state.
- To Secure the Blessings of Liberty – our nation was built around the ideals of individual freedom and liberty, and while government certainly makes it a point to promote such personal liberties, it is our responsibility to regularly challenge government to provide for such freedoms.
- To Promote the General Welfare – a rather broad purpose which basically means that government may provide services and regulations for the public good, consumer protection or anything which would allow capitalism to thrive so that the consumer can receive the best services and prices possible.
- To Insure Domestic Tranquility – this means government must provide order in society and allow for domestic peace.
These principles are quite a distance from your “… band together and lobby for their interests” suggestion. The example at the beginning of this post is an example of how banding together is the WRONG method for addressing grievances. And your suggestion that we shouldn’t have to “fend for ourselves.” Sorry pal, that IS an essential of personal responsibility … ask anyone who gets up every morning and goes to work!
Worst is yet to come … Lenny continues with a statement that is particularly disturbing because it advances the insidious lie that Conservatives promote the most heinous behavior from some of the darkest moments in human history:
So how can we possibly do better by returning to times when we were worse off by almost any measure? Slavery? Apartheid? The right of a man to beat his wife with a stick as long as it does not exceed the thickness of his thumb? Here’s a rule of thumb for you conservatives: GET A CLUE!
What? Conservatives believe in slavery, white rule and domestic violence? Lenny, you wouldn’t last 5 minutes in a junior high debate forum. The crowd is giving you a “thumbs down” and the hook is coming in from the wings. You should be thankful that there are no criminal laws against the use of logical fallicies because you would be arrested on multiple counts. It’s unfortunate you used President Obama’s web site to espouse your drivel … I really can’t imagine he would approve of what you’ve said. You’ve downgraded the discussion and eliminated yourself from being taken seriously. But thank you for coming in for the audition. And as Simon Cowell would say … “that would be a NO!”
