Via GAWKER: Why Louis Caldera Should Be Fired This panic video shows why the White House official should go. The clip, circulated via email, shows a crowd in Lower Manhattan screaming and running in just one of the many cases in which New Yorkers freaked out at what looked like a 9/11-style terror attack.
Via NY Daily News: Mayor Bloomberg outraged over military photo-op involving low-flying presidential jet A perfect storm of idiocy led to a frightening 9/11 flashback for thousands of New Yorkers Monday when a jumbo jet and an F-16 fighter jet buzzed lower Manhattan without warning. Via AHN: New York City Fly By Triggers 9/11 Memories, Panic A back-up of the presidential plane flew at low altitude over New York City for a photo op on Monday but the unexpected scene, reminiscent of 9/11, prompted many office workers to evacuate out of high-rise buildings. A Boeing 747, trailed by an Air Force F-16 circled Manhattan, Staten Island, and New Jersey at 1,000 feet to as low as 150 feet around 9:30 a.m. as part of a publicity operation of the Department of Defense (DOD). The DOD informed local authorities and the New York and New Jersey police of the fly-bys last week but decided not to inform the general public and the media.
Via The Age: Obama’s fury over NYC jet scare An Administration official described President Barack Obama as also being furious when he heard about the incident and the confusion it caused.
