USA beats Spain…in SoccerVia InquisitrIn perhaps one of the most unlikely results in world soccer in recent years, the United States has beaten Spain 2-0 to progress to the final of the Confederations Cup.The victory is even more remarkable given Spain is currently ranked the number one team in the world, and entered the match on a 35 game winning streak, tied for the longest in FIFA’s history.Team USA struggled in the earlier stages of the competition, losing opening matches 3-1 to Italy and 3-0 to Brazil, andb only managed to scrape into the semi-final on goal difference after defeating Egypt 3-0 in their final group match.Against Spain, the United States went one up in the first half off a goal from Jozy Altidore, then held off an at times desperate Spanish attack to go 2-0 up in the 74th minute with a goal from Clint Dempsey. The Americans play the winner of Thursday night’s semi-final between Brazil and South Africa Sunday night.
