MEMO TO OBAMA: “If history teaches anything, it teaches self-delusion in the face of unpleasant facts is folly.” R. Reagan

August 15th, 2010
No comments

In fact Mr. Obama, it would be helpful to review a lot more quotes by President Reagan, a man who actually deserves the title.

By Frank Gaffney @ BIG PEACE:
News that Vladimir Putin’s regime will proceed to fueling Iran’s Bushehr nuclear reactor on August 21st is the strategic equivalent of a high-Richter-scale tectonic shift. It is likely to trigger the most far-reaching shockwaves with incalculable repercussions.

For starters, this Russian action offers the latest and most compelling evidence that there has been no real, two-way “reset” of US-Russian relations. Taken together with Russia’s providing advanced anti-aircraft systems, refined petroleum and political protection to Tehran, even the immediate rationale for U.S. appeasement of Moscow – i.e., the Kremlin’s help with the Iranian nuclear program – has not panned out.

In fact, all we have to show for this unilateral reset is systematic accommodation by the United States and business-as-usual by the Kremlin.
Time for Obama to come out of his funk.

Will Israel draw the “short straw” for dealing with a nuclear Iran?

August 11th, 2010
No comments

Based on months of interviews, I have come to believe that the administration knows it is a near-certainty that Israel will act against Iran soon if nothing or no one else stops the nuclear program; and Obama knows—as his aides, and others in the State and Defense departments made clear to me—that a nuclear-armed Iran is a serious threat to the interests of the United States, which include his dream of a world without nuclear weapons ~ Jeffrey Goldberg

From The Atlantic:
It is possible that at some point in the next 12 months, the imposition of devastating economic sanctions on the Islamic Republic of Iran will persuade its leaders to cease their pursuit of nuclear weapons. It is also possible that Iran’s reform-minded Green Movement will somehow replace the mullah-led regime, or at least discover the means to temper the regime’s ideological extremism. It is possible, as well, that “foiling operations” conducted by the intelligence agencies of Israel, the United States, Great Britain, and other Western powers—programs designed to subvert the Iranian nuclear effort through sabotage and, on occasion, the carefully engineered disappearances of nuclear scientists—will have hindered Iran’s progress in some significant way. It is also possible that President Obama, who has said on more than a few occasions that he finds the prospect of a nuclear Iran “unacceptable,” will order a military strike against the country’s main weapons and uranium-enrichment facilities.

But none of these things—least of all the notion that Barack Obama, for whom initiating new wars in the Middle East is not a foreign-policy goal, will soon order the American military into action against Iran—seems, at this moment, terribly likely.
The Point of No Return.

WEEKEND REALITY CHECK: Does Arab public opinion worldwide need same solution as leaking BP Deep Horizon oil well?

… views of President Obama have dropped from 45 percent in 2009 to 20 percent today, with his negatives rising even further -- from 23 percent to 62 percent -- as fence-sitters waiting to see what he delivered render their verdict. Only 12 percent express favorable views of the United States, compared to 15 percent in the final year of the Bush administration. Only 16 percent declare themselves hopeful about administration policies, compared to 51 percent last year, and a statistically insignificant 1 percent are pleased with the administration's policies towards the Israeli-Palestinian conflict ~ Marc Lynch @ Lynch.ForeignPolicy.com

Plug it … cap it … monitor for future leaks:
A new poll finds that a majority of Arabs support Iran obtaining a nuclear weapon. This doesn’t jibe with “elite” Arab opinion — that of the sort found in the palaces of Arab capitals — which considers a nuclear-equipped, revolutionary Shiite regime a major destabilizing force. (That privately-held view was inadvertently divulged earlier this summer when the United Arab Emirates’ ambassador to the United States essentially came out in support of a military strike on Iranian nuclear facilities.) Most interesting is that the percentage of Arabs in favor of a nuclear Iran has doubled in the past year, in defiance of the Obama administration’s campaign to rally the world in favor of tougher sanctions on the regime.

… the United States has and always will be reviled by many people around the world (particularly Muslims), that the reasons for this resentment are often quite complex and beyond our control, and that, rather than fret and complain about this phenomenon, policymakers would do well to pursue what they believe to be in the nation’s interest, regardless of what foreigners think. This latest poll simply underscores the irrationality, paranoia, and ignorance underlying Arab public opinion — and why we should stop obsessing over it, if not ignore it entirely.

Do “non-combat” troops get to carry a rifle?

August 3rd, 2010
No comments

With the absence of an agreed-upon government and with political rivals threatening that the situation could deteriorate into renewed civil war, the political vacuum gives Iran space to interfere in Iraq's affairs. Iran wants there to be a prime minister in Iraq who will be an Iranian ally and follow Iranian orders. Iran prefers incumbent Shi'ite Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki over Iyad Allawi, a secular Shi'ite who is friendly with the U.S. and in close contact with the CIA ~ Zvi Bar'el, HAARETZ.com

Do “non-combat” troops get to carry a rifle?
President Obama today stressed that America’s plans for withdrawal from Iraq are on schedule. U.S. combat troops, he said, will be out of the country by the end of August, leaving about 50,000 “non-combat” troops who will leave by the end of 2011.

Morning Summary of MUST READ stories for Tuesday, July 27, 2010

July 27th, 2010

The news clown is sad today about all the dummies in Washington.

AM summary of MUST READ stories across the web:

Liberal Environmentalist is an unlikely skeptic of Global Warming:

If only THIS woman’s mother & father had applied the board of education to the seat of knowledge (PEOPLE LIKE THIS ARE ACTUALLY PAID FOR THEIR ARROGANT INSENSITIVITY AND IGNORANCE?):
The “Spirited Atheist” of The Washington Post, Susan Jacoby, predictably trashed Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston as not only “poster children for the dumbing down of America” and as “most middle-class American parents’ worst nightmare,” but proof of what happens when religious people show off their contempt for book learning:

Bristol was used by her mother as an asset to placate the religious right-wing base of the Republican Party during the 2008 campaign. She was a living demonstration of Sarah Palin’s opposition to abortion: Look at my teenage daughter, she made a mistake and did the right thing by having the baby. The only more shameless aspect of Sarah’s campaign was her constant exhibition of her Down Syndrome son. Look at me, I didn’t have an abortion like those terrible elitist women who make fun of me for not reading books.

from NewsBusters.org – Exposing Liberal Media Bias by Tim Graham.

Jay Tea asks some pretty hard hitting questions about the Shirley Sherrod incident:
One element of the whole Shirley Sherrod mess has bugged me from the outset. One aspect that has simply not made any sense whatsoever in the whole narrative. And that is how quickly the Obama administration and the NAACP jumped to distance themselves from her, and how hard they jumped.

Remember the timeline. Two elements show just how quickly they reacted:

–Breitbart posts the video at 11:18 a.m. last Monday.

–Sherrod’s own account of her dismissal.

Sherrod says that she was called while driving home from work. Her boss told her that the White House had called three times to get her fired, because she was “going to be on Glenn Beck’s show tonight.”

Beck’s show airs at 5:00 p.m. That means that the White House had called three separate times between 11:18 and then. (It also means that Sherrod had already left work before 5:00, but she could have gotten an early start that day.) And between each call, there was enough time for Sherrod’s bosses to get hold of her and garner her resignation — say, at least half an hour. So knock another 90 minutes off the time frame. That means that the White House decided she had to go no later than 3:30 that afternoon, and in all likelihood even sooner.

In that 4-hour window, what elements factored into their decision to get rid of Sherrod?
Check it out … Jay concludes with the ultimate question.

Rep. Charles Djou (R-HI): Iran is a REAL THREAT:
I take seriously our nation’s security. In the oath that I took to become the U.S. Representative of Hawai‘i’s First Congressional District, I swore to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic.” As an Army Reserve officer, I have sworn to give my life in our country’s defense if necessary. Whenever there is a threat to our nation, it is my duty to confront it. I believe that Iran is such a threat.

Iran is a state sponsor of terrorism and has aided in the killing of Americans in Iraq and Afghanistan. Iran’s government is led by a Holocaust-denying president. And Iran continues to defy the United Nations and most of the international community by developing its nuclear weapons program. A nuclear-armed Iran is a threat to the United States, to our ally Israel and to the Western world.

The Day Care Center on Capital Hill … Magical Thinkers in Washington:

Predictions of cost savings through ObamaCare, like most liberal politics, were based on magical thinking. If they want something to be true with sufficiently intensity, liberals know it must be true.

Small children are natural magical thinkers. Ask any psychologist, pediatrician, or parent. Magical thinkers believe that because they want it or can conceive of it, “it” is so, or will be so. The magically thinking child ties a cape on his back and knows that with it on, he can fly. When he jumps off the roof, he will, of course, fall, not soar like Superman. The usual cure for magical thinking is ToT (tincture of time) and evidence.

People in Congress and in the White House, though not physically small, behave like children: They depend on magical thinking. Because they say it, “it” will be.

WRITER’S ENVY … this is spectacular!!:
The election of Obama reminds me of years ago, when I bought a fake Tag Heuer watch while visiting Manhattan. Normally I walk right by street vendors, but this watch caught my eye. It was sleek and clean, and some described it as gorgeous. Only true Tag aficionados could tell that the watch was a fake.

The thing that impressed me about my fake Tag was that it had the “weight” of a real Tag. It didn’t feel like the lightweight replicas I had seen in Mexico, China, and Africa. And the best part? My fake Tag cost me $7!

… My fake Tag had all the real Tag markings on the back, though I certainly wasn’t given papers to authenticate my fake Tag. However, if I had asked, the salesperson might have produced them.
By Kevin Jackson @ American Thinker: Obama and the Fake Tag.

What hath “Dr. Evil” [Andrew Breitbart] wrought?:
According to Maureen Dowd, Barack Obama’s latest problem may be because he isn’t black enough:

The Obama White House is too white.

It has Barack Obama, raised in the Hawaiian hood and Indonesia, and Valerie Jarrett, who spent her early years in Iran.

But unlike Bill Clinton, who never needed help fathoming Southern black culture, Obama lacks advisers who are descended from the central African-American experience, ones who understand “the slave thing,” as a top black Democrat dryly puts it.

Everything you need to know about Silly Bandz:
If you’re a parent -— actually, even if you’re not -— you have probably seen those colorful little rubber bracelets accessorizing teens nationwide. It’s the latest superfad: rubber band-like figures shaped like anything from monkeys to faces to stars.

Silly Bandz (and their imitators) are a booming business. Silly Bandz alone sells over $100 million worth of product each year. They come in a pack of 24 for about $5, and they are everywhere, from the malls to the classrooms (some schools are even considering banning the bands for creating a nuisance).
Analysis by Benjamin Radford @ Discovery News: Anatomy of a Fad: Aboard the Silly Bandz Wagon.

PRIORITIES:
Barack Obama will skip the Boy Scout 100 year Anniversary Jamboree … Instead he will travel to New York City to appear on “The View.”

Can you spell … G[OOPS]GLE:
A few days ago, Google tried to make a vague attempt at beautifying its Image Search and complicated things in the process. Image searches became more taxing on the browser. Google Image search loaded all the pages in a single view and needed us to scroll down to see results. This was good for those with fast internet connections. However, on slow connections, it simply did not load any further pages apart from the first or, in some cases; it did not load the thumbnails after the first few pages. To add to that, the thumbnail preview on hover was a user-interface disaster and made it extremely hard to use Google Image Search anymore.

Israel’s MI chief: Iran has crossed ‘technological threshold’ in quest for nukes

March 8th, 2009
No comments

Barak Ravid – Haaretz Correspondent

[Israel's] Military Intellience chief Amos Yadlin said Sunday at the weekly cabinet meeting that “Iran has crossed the technological threshold” in its quest for nuclear arms.

“Arrival at military nuclear capability is a matter of strategy,” Yadlin said. “Iran is accumulating hundreds of kilograms of enriched uranium at a low level and hopes to utilize the dialogue with the West in order to gain time, which is required in order to achieve the capability to manufacture a nuclear bomb.”

Iranian media reported on Sunday that Iran has test-fired a new air-to-surface missile, in the Islamic Republic’s latest display of its military capability.

The missile test was carried out despite the offer by the administration of new U.S. President Barack Obama to engage Iran in direct talks if it “unclenches its fist”.

“HOPE & CHANGE” loosely translated … “Gee, I sure HOPE the Iranians CHANGE their mind!”

The U.S. State Department declined to comment on the Iranian press reports.

That’s because State has more on its plate than Hillary can handle either … like Afghanistan, finding a new RUSSIAN TRANSLATOR or finding new ways to be nice to the Human Rights abusing Chinese Government.
