Still waiting for some good reasons to vote for Nathan Deal as Georgia’s Governor?

Written by Editor on . Posted in Georgia News

Roy Daniels pulled a few out of his desk drawer today and put them up at Peach Pundit … “I think Deal is a better candidate than Barnes. I think Monds won’t garner more than 7% of the vote. I see Deal as a one-term Governor. He saw problems in his home state with the possibility of the Governorship falling back into Barnes’ hands – and stepped in to prevent that. Deal could have remained Congressman Deal until the cows came home; but rather he has chosen to become Governor Deal and quietly retire one day.” CHECK OUT MORE HERE: In Deal’s Defense.

That’s what I like about The Augusta Chronicle … CONVICTION: “Make no mistake — your vote can turn this country around”

The Augusta Chronicle

Their editorial gets right to the point: “The reason is that, without this election, America might become unrecognizable in the near future.”
Radical liberals who now control the Democratic machinery have made no bones about their desire to have a single-payer — i.e., government — health-care system. Can Tuesday, Nov. 2, possibly come soon enough? We have some 48 hours now to change this country’s direction. Our future hangs in the balance.
The also have endorsed Nathan Deal for Georgia Governor.

Nathan Deal gets the nod from Savannah Morning News in Georgia Gov Race

Written by Editor on . Posted in Georgia News

Mr. Barnes, 62, already had his turn at governor. Voters wanted him out after four years. Now it's Mr. Deal's turn.

It doesn’t exactly “glow,” but he’ll take it.
THIS YEAR’S mud-spattered race for Georgia governor between Nathan Deal and Roy Barnes is one of the most unsatisfying in many years. [but] In our opinion, the candidate who offers the most potential to improve the lives of citizens in this state is Nathan Deal. Mr. Deal, 68, the former congressman from Gainesville, is easily the most fiscally conservative candidate. His record in Washington of supporting reduced taxes and less government should be replicated in Atlanta. Combined with a like-minded, Republican-controlled legislature, this should result in policies that create a positive climate for businesses to create jobs and put Georgians to work. Time for Deal.
Perhaps the closing line sums up this race the best: “…Georgians can’t be preoccupied by what-ifs. Instead, they must focus on the what-should-bes.”

Nathan Deal … a quality choice for Georgia. Vote the REAL DEAL for Governor

Nathan Deal has taken some serious criticism lately by Roy Barnes and others, particularly one member of Atlanta’s gay community, Seth Persily. Persily found serious exception to an ad used in the Deal campaign which alleged that Karen Handel at one time supported domestic partnership benefits for gay couples. Jim Galloway at the AJC gives us the rundown on the little “private war” that Persily has now started in an effort to draw attention to Deal’s reputation (which is odd in queer strange sort of way, given that reputations are so subjective anyway). It is interesting that Galloway uses the following phrases to describe the campaign: “…when Persily gets angry, he has options.” So here we have the first indication of a less than honorable motive … ANGER. Galloway continues, “Usually, he uses his powers for good.” FLAG NUMBER 2: Persily is using his power for EVIL (that’s sort of unspoken, of course, but work with me here). And then the ALL IMPORTANT quote in the article: “I’ve never tried to harm someone’s reputation. This is a first for us,” [Persily] said. So there you have it, the police interview equivalent of a signed confession … “Yes officer, I’m trying to harm his reputation.” You see, the pitiful part of this cheap experiment is that it is devoid of facts relating to the exceptional character and positive reputation of Nathan Deal. It’s pure manipulation motivated by anger and built upon unwarranted manipulation of search technology … a dirty practical joke that in the real world should bring criticism on the perpetrator. Is it a cheap shot? Well, that is the best thing you can call it. More accurately, it’s a reverse “hate crime.” Persily is gay, and perhaps a little sensitive about it. Following are some stories to support Nathan Deal’s reputation and good work he has done for Georgia. Hopefully, they will provide some positive points to consider and balance the less than honorable actions of Mr. Persily.
Let’s begin with Cynthia Tucker at the AJC (Jim … you ever go to lunch with Cynthia? Just asking): First, you just KNOW you’re in good standing when Tucker picks you out as a target. In her column, you will be especially humored by the sentence, “The Republican voters of Georgia have chosen Nathan Deal to carry the banner for them in the governor’s race? I confess I didn’t see that coming. They went with the guy whom a good government group once labelled “one of the 15 most c.o.r.r.u.p.t. (she means GREATEST) members of Congress?” He’s the reincarnation of Gene Talmadge.” I thought it was pretty cool to use that term “GOVERNMENT GROUP,” particularly when the group she’s referring to is “CREW – Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington.” Wikipedia identifies them as a “Liberal Watchdog” group … hardly a “Government Group.” The lion’s share of their targets just happen to be … (WAIT FOR IT): REPUBLICANS. Let’s just call them “ACLU Light.” And by the way, they have merely made accusations … that’s what they do. Basically, CREW is nothing more than a liberal advocacy group which was funded by Democratic high rollers about four years ago by a group called Democracy Alliance (can you spell George Soros?). Their mission is to diminish the effectiveness of anything “Conservative.” You may find it extremely interesting that this group, and all the other not-for-profit groups funded by the alliance are exempt from public disclosure laws. HELLO!! That’s means they don’t have to report where the MONEY is coming from! Get my drift? Oh … here’s Cynthia’s hit piece.
So Cynthia … put a sock in it. Nathan Deal is good people and the liberal weenies who are being paid to stir all this junk up are NOT good people. Oh … and no surprise here: CREW Calls for criminal investigation into Christine O’Donnell for campaign finance fraud — SHOCKER. And this from their blog: “”Christine O’Donnell is clearly a criminal, and like any crook she should be prosecuted,” said Melanie Sloan, CREW Executive Director.” WOW — liberal money sure knows how to talk!! But I digress … back to Georgia’s great candidate for Governor, Nathan Deal – a positive choice for Georgia.
By CHUCK WILLIAMS @ ledger-enquirer.com: Two Georgia House members from Columbus have thrown their support behind Nathan Deal in the Republican runoff for governor. Richard Smith and Kip Smith are two of 70 Republican House members who support Deal, a former U.S. Congressman from Gainesville, Ga. Deal and former Secretary of State Karen Handel face off Tuesday. The winner will meet Roy Barnes in the Nov. 2 general election. “There are three reasons I am supporting him,” Richard Smith said. “First is preparation for the job. The second is character and third is he is ready to lead now. Those three things set him apart from his opponent. There is no question in my mind who is most qualified — and that is Nathan Deal.” House Speaker David Ralston said Deal is the most qualified. “His love for our state is matched only by his qualifications to lead it,” Ralston said. Gubernatorial candidate Nathan Deal gets local GOP support.
Very positive comments from the primary.
March 11, 2009 … College of American Pathologists: The American Medical Association honored Rep. Nathan Deal (R-GA) with the Dr. Nathan Davis Award for Outstanding Government Service March 10 at its National Advocacy Conference in Washington, D.C. The College of American Pathologists nominated Representative Deal due to his numerous contributions in improving patient safety, advancing a health care quality agenda and safeguarding programs that ensure public health. “Mr. Deal’s talent for developing innovative solutions to complex health care challenges has promoted the art and science of medicine,” said Jared N. Schwartz, MD, PhD, President of the College of American Pathologists. “As an advocate for high quality health care, he has earned the respect of his colleagues and we believe that this national recognition is one he richly deserves.” AMA Honors Rep. Nathan Deal with Award for Outstanding Service.
Very cool.
SavannahPolitics.com: State Senator Earl “Buddy” Carter (R-Pooler) – is supporting Nathan Deal in the August 10th Republican Runoff election for Governor. Out of the Republican choices for Governor, none of the Republican candidates received 50% + 1 of the votes and now the election will be decided by voters with a runoff. Carter stated, “After much thought and consideration for which candidate would best serve as Governor for our state, I have decided to endorse Nathan Deal. Nathan and Karen both have a distinctive set of qualifications and my decision to endorse Nathan Deal is based upon his experience and background.” SENATOR BUDDY CARTER ENDORSES NATHAN DEAL FOR GOVERNOR OF GEORGIA.
120Politics.com: Nathan Deal, candidate for governor, has picked up the endorsement of five Republican members of the Georgia Congressional delegation. U.S. Representatives Phil Gingrey, Tom Price, Lynn Westmoreland, John Linder and Paul Broun have given their support for Deal’s bid for the Republican nomination for governor in 2010. “Nathan has been an outstanding member of Congress and he is going to be a great governor for Georgia,” said Gingrey, who is chairman of the group of Republican House lawmakers from Georgia, known as the “G-7.” Westmoreland, who served as a leader in the state House of Representatives before coming to Washington said Deal is respected for his leadership in Washington. “When Nathan speaks, everyone listens,” Westmoreland said. “He is respected on both sides of the aisle and never compromises his core conservative beliefs.” Republican Congressmen Endorse Nathan Deal for Georgia Governor.
Nathan Deal really does represent core conservative values … this is more important in this election cycle than ever before.
Ralph Reed interviews Nathan Deal:
Jobs, healthcare, illegals … yep, it’s all in there.
WDEF News 12: The race to become Georgia’s next Governor begins in earnest Thursday as Republican Nathan Deal squares off against Democrat Roy Barnes. Deal thanked opponents Karen Handel for conceding before election numbers become official, giving him a few extra days to campaign. He says he knows the race against former Governor Barnes won’t be easy, but he’s confident he is the party’s best chance to win. Nathan Deal,” This is a year in which conservative values are on the minds of Georgians, and I intend to keep those issues in the minds of the georgians.” Deal has a history of ruffling feathers in the Obama administration. Republican Nominee for Governor Nathan Deal Says He’s Ready For the Fight Against Democrat Roy Barnes.
By Susanna Capelouto @ GPB News: Georgia’s Republican Party is defending Nathan Deal after a conservative radio host questioned whether Deals’ financial troubles could hurt his election. Kenny Burgamy is a conservative talk show host in central Georgia. He says his callers have had questions about Nathan Deal’s more than 2 million dollars in bank loans that are due in February. They resulted from his son in-laws’ failed business. “ A number of those we’ve heard from in recent days say that some things in their mind just don’t add up,” Burgamy says. Sue Everhard chairs Georgia’s Republican Party. She says Nathan Deal has done nothing wrong and was only trying to help his children. Georgia’s successful economic recovery will depend on people willing to take a calculated risk to start a business and employ Georgians. It will also depend on policy-makers’ willingness to create an environment that fosters our American and exceptional entrepreneurism. That’s why we need Nathan Deal. Nathan’s Real Prosperity plan increases Georgia’s competitiveness by lowering income taxes on Georgia’s families and reducing corporate income taxes by a third. The Tax Foundation estimates that his plan will improve Georgia’s business climate from the bottom half of states to the top one-third. Nathan’s plan for education, “Real Results,” provides maximum flexibility for local school districts, protects the HOPE scholarship and will bolster math and science education. He has led the fight against Obamacare. He stands up to Washington liberals whose brand of “change” comes with hefty price tags that Georgians can’t afford. Georgians are concerned with issues, not petty and personal attacks. Nathan Deal has the philosophy, plan and experience to put Georgia back on track. I ask you to vote for Nathan Deal and not rewind Georgia to the bad old days of Roy Barnes. Sue Everhart is the chairman of the Georgia Republican Party and lives in Marietta. Yes, The Beacon, the voice of North Fulton County, is the fair and balanced “conservative” editorial alternative to the drive-by downtown media liberals. Yes, The Beacon, a paid Sunday subscriber newspaper in North Fulton County, is Karen Handel’s hometown newspaper. Yes, The Beacon has a strict editorial policy against endorsing candidates in elections. We never have: until today. The Beacon believes the stakes of tomorrow’s Republican gubernatorial run-off election are just too high to remain silent. Simply put, we know too much about Karen Handel. As her local media outlet, we cover her extensively. That’s precisely why we are compelled to break with tradition, and publicly endorse Nathan Deal for Governor in Tuesday’s all too critical GOP run-off. We are not alone. Virtually the entire North Fulton State House delegation, her hometown legislative team, has lined up behind Nathan Deal. Deal has enlisted the enthusiastic support of former House Speaker Mark Burkhalter (R-Johns Creek), House Speaker Pro-Tem Jan Jones (R-Milton), House Ways and Means Subcommittee Chairman Chuck Martin (R-Alpharetta), House Energy and Utilities and Telecommunications Vice Chairman Harry Geisinger (R-Roswell) and House Ethics Committee Chairman Joe Wilkinson (R-Sandy Springs). Deal is Real – And the Best Choice for North Fulton Voters..
I’d say that pretty will sums it up. The hits just keep on comin’:
Macon.com: Nathan Deal has been building the résumé to run for governor his whole life. Top grades. Student body president. Debate champion. Law school. Military record. A nearly three-decade-long career in the state Legislature and Congress. “We all figured in, oh, the fifth or sixth grade that Nathan was going to be governor,” said his childhood friend Tommy Walker, of Sandersville. “He was just that way, the class leader with the good grades. It’s like it was in his DNA.” Deal has gone to bat for issues important to business in his district — or, in the view of consumer advocates, undermine government regulation. In 2003, he persuaded fellow lawmakers to support a provision allowing farmers to market their chickens as organic even if they never ate organic meal, so long as they could prove there was a shortage of the feed. It was tucked into a giant $397 billion spending bill. Deal sought the provision on behalf of Fieldale Farms Corp., which is in his district. That change outraged organic farmers, and the Bush administration had it overturned. Tough proposals to crack down on illegal immigration have been the centerpiece of his tenure. Deal has said that is the direct result of concerns bubbling up from his north Georgia district, where immigrants have arrived in large numbers to work at textile mills. In 1995, Deal proposed using soldiers to help enforce immigration and drug laws at the border. He also proposed legislation that would require all employers to use a federal database called E-Verify meant to keep illegal immigrants out of the work force. Deal’s steady career leads to GOP bid.
From my day job:
Gwinnett Daily Post: The financial woes of its gubernatorial candidate won’t stop the Gwinnett GOP from supporting Nathan Deal, party chairman Bruce LeVell said Friday. “Nathan Deal today demonstrated again why he must be the next governor of the great state of Georgia,” LeVell said in a statement. “He has fully explained the situation surrounding his personal finances, making it clear that he is among the many Georgians whose financial standing has been affected by the economic downturn. Like so many of us, he was simply attempting to help his own children start their own small business, as he understands that entrepreneurship is the backbone of the American Dream.” Deal spoke Friday at a Gwinnett Bar Association luncheon, where he focused on the campaign issues of public safety, education and job creation. Afterward, he said the negative publicity about his finances has been difficult. He said he is proud of his daughter and the hard work she and her husband put into their outdoor supply store, but he said it has been difficult for his family for the news to become public. “Those are the things most Georgians understand,” he said of the struggle to succeed in a flailing economy. LeVell said the members of the Gwinnett GOP empathize. GOP stands behind Deal .
Nice.
HomeTownTimes.com: Dear Voter, As your state senator for district 51 for the last five years, I can tell you that having a governor who understands the legislative process plays an important role in making legislation become law. That’s one very important reason I am supporting Nathan Deal in the August 10 runoff. Nathan is a former state senator and held the office of president pro-tem, the highest office in the Senate. He is the only remaining Republican candidate with legislative experience. He understands the work of the House and Senate and has assured me that he will work with us, not against us. I am proud to join the other nearly three quarters of elected Republican members of the Georgia General Assembly in endorsing Nathan Deal as our Real, conservative Republican candidate for Governor. Letter to the Editor from Chip Pearson.
You really only have one candidate if you are a conservative voter in Georgia. Nathan Deal is the candidate to elect for Governor. Your vote may not be an endorsement of his personal problems, but it will be a confirmation that you want Georgia to have the best leadership available to lead us during these difficult days. Vote for the REAL DEAL … Nathan Deal for Georgia Governor.
