Browser-based Jailbreak Available for All iPhones, iPads and iPod Touches at JailbreakMe.com

Written by Editor on . Posted in Technology Beat

"JailbreakMe" quickly jumped into the trending topics on Twitter after the announcement on tech news site Redmond Pie. This is possibly the first browser-based jailbreak. In the past, users would jailbreak their phones by downloading an app onto their computers and connecting to the device they wanted to jailbreak.

And the crowd goes wild: A hacker has created a website that will jailbreak iPods, iPads and iPhones running almost any version of iOS, freeing the devices from software restrictions placed on them by Apple. Users who want to access unauthorized apps or use their phones in multiple countries, for example, can surf to http://jailbreakme.com/ to hack their devices. Jailbreaking will void the warranty on a device, Apple says. However, the action is easy to undo by resetting a device to factory settings (and will be undone by downloading any new version of Apple’s mobile operating system, iOS).

THIS ROCKS: One Twitter Script to Rule Them All

Written by Editor on . Posted in Technology Beat

ReadWriteWeb reports on the “kitchen sink” Twitter script … very nice Over the past year, all the major tech blogs have done round-up articles of great Greasemonkey scripts to use with Twitter (including us). What this says about Twitter’s native functionality we aren’t sure, but we know we’ve had upwards of 10 separate scripts installed and active at different times. All that is going to end, at least for the next little while, as we have just found the GM script that does everything (and we mean everything).

Why Google should want Twitter: Currency

Why Google should want Twitter: Currency
Here’s a good clue as to why Google should be interested in Twitter. It’s not just search. It’s currency. Google isn’t good at currency. It needs content to ferment; it needs links and clicks to collect so PageRank can determine its value. But in this report, Google chief economist Hal Varian and analyst Hyunyoung Choi demonstrate that Google search trends are good at predicting the present. That is, rather than waiting weeks or even a month to get aggregated figures on auto, retail, home, or travel sales to be collected and analyzed and released, Google search patterns can give a good indication of sales now. Note that to do that, Google’s value is not in its analysis of content but in its collection of our behavior, which is faster. Of course, Twitter is even faster, even more immediate. It collects what we’re doing and talking and thinking of doing right now.
George Orwell should be rolling over in his grave about now!
