The high moral ground of the Church of the Grifterterians, The Lincoln Project, only involves worship of money.February 11, 2021
The Lincoln Project, whose stated goal for launch was the defeat of Donald Trump and Trumpism, as proclaimed in this December 16, 2020 opinion piece in The Washington Post by co-founder Reed Galen.
A year ago, The Lincoln Project launched with two stated goals: First, Defeat Donald Trump at the ballot box. Second, ensure Trumpism failed alongside him. We are proud to have been a part of the broad and deep coalition that helped elect Joe Biden and Kamala D. Harris to the White House. Trumpism, however, is far from extinction.
The six weeks since Election Day have seen much of the Republican Party, the party of Abraham Lincoln, turn fully against American democracy.
Trump’s allies and abettors, including more than 100 lawmakers and 18 Republican state attorneys general, tried to poison our political system in the service of a personality cult. Theirs is a veneration driven not by high ideals but by fear, resentment and a transparent desire to maintain power for its own sake.
We must combat these forces, everywhere and all the time. It will take the dedication of citizens of all political beliefs to recognize that what Trumpism represents is far outside the American mainstream. Progressives will need to join with conservatives. Independents will need to join the army of decency and democracy.
So much for the high moral ground that they’ve taken to protect Americans from the evil Republicans – it’s unfortunate they didn’t have as much righteous fervor to protect young men from the alleged sexual predation of their co-founder John Weaver…
Ryan Girdusky broke the story of Lincoln Project co-founder John Weaver’s alleged predatory behavior toward young men, and when the New York Times followed up with its own reporting of the allegations, the Lincoln Project adamantly denied any knowledge of the reported incidents.
The AP is now reporting that in “June 2020, members of the organization’s leadership were informed in writing and in subsequent phone calls of at least 10 specific allegations of harassment against co-founder John Weaver.”
AP: “Despite the early warning, the group took no action against Weaver and pressed forward with its high-profile work.”
In June 2020, members of the organization’s leadership were informed in writing and in subsequent phone calls of at least 10 specific allegations of harassment against co-founder John Weaver, including two involving Lincoln Project employees, according to multiple people with direct knowledge of the situation. The email and phone calls raise questions about the Lincoln Project’s statement last month that it was “shocked” when accusations surfaced publicly this year. It’s also the first known suggestion that Weaver targeted a Lincoln Project staffer.
Despite the early warning, the group took no action against Weaver and pressed forward with its high-profile work. For the collection of GOP consultants and former officials, being anti-Trump was becoming very good for business. Of the $90 million Lincoln Project has raised, more than $50 million has gone to firms controlled by the group’s leaders.
And as the Legal Insurrection piece reveals, “co-founder Rick Wilson chose not to deal with the AP revelations at all; instead, he bizarrely dismisses the AP as “Trump world” as he “Look! Squirrels” Orange Man Bad.”
Another day, another hit story from Trump world.
I know y’all would like to ignore the mounting evidence of Trump ordering a murderous mob to attack the Capitol, but you can’t

Even Glenn Greenwald has checked in with his analysis of the Lincoln Project in summary fashion…
Good @AP exposé proving what what was already obvious:
1) @ProjectLincoln lied when it denied knowing of complaints about John Weaver’s sexual misconduct;

Another co-founder, George Conway, took the classic Sgt. Schultz route and said he “Knew NUTHING!”
For the record: No one ever told me of these complaints being made to the Lincoln project, and the first I ever heard that Weaver may have done anything questionable were rumors I heard well after the election, and long after I ceased active involvement with the organization. https://t.co/H0yhBvau0f

MAJOR UPDATE 2/12/21 – from Legal Insurrection…
Hailed as heroes who were taking a principled Never Trump stand by the Democratic Party’s unofficial media activist arm, the Lincoln Project is quickly going the way of Michael Avenatti; having served their anti-Trump purpose, the media that built them up is busily tearing them down.
And as with Avenatti, the damage to the Lincoln Project is self-inflicted; now that the election is over, the second sham impeachment circus wrapping up, their vileness is no longer being ignored, buried, and/or spun by a TDS-afflicted media willing to embrace any scourge to score points against President Trump.
A proper summary comes from the ever observant Glenn Greenwald…
Everything scummy, dirty, unethical, dishonest and scamming about @ProjectLincoln was completely known and obvious over the last 18 months.
Journalists and others in liberal politics are willing to admit it now only because, with Trump vanquished, there is no more use for them.

And the coup de grâce offered by Yashar Ali gives a fitting epitaph for the Church of the Never-Trumpers…
The Lincoln Project is over….
