Literally, it means \u201cafterthought\u201d<\/strong><\/span> or \u201cchange of mind,\u201d<\/strong><\/span> but biblically, its meaning does not stop there. As metanoias used in the New Testament, it always speaks of a change of purpose, and specifically a turning from sin. In the sense Jesus used it, repentance calls for a repudiation of the old life and a turning to God for salvation.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The Heart of True Repentance<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

The Westminster Confession<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s definition is quoted:<\/p>\n

A sinner, impressed not only with the danger but also the filth and odiousness of their sins\u2014seeing them as opposed to God\u2019s holy nature and law\u2014and, apprehending God\u2019s mercy in Christ, grieves over and hates those sins, turning from them to God with the intent to walk in His ways.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
